Dirty grout is not beyond repair.

at | Category: Flooring

Today I used AquaMix grout stain to brighten a customer’s dirty grout lines. I had heard good things from pros about the results of working with epoxy grout stains, and had a client that wanted to do something to their kitchen. Normally when grout is this badly stained would mean removing and re-grouting, a time consuming dusty job. I figured my client also saved around $300 by using this method as well.

I started by sweeping, and vacuuming the floor. A coating stripper was then applied and worked in with a nylon brush. We then cleaned the floor with a mop, and fresh water. After it dried we applied the grout stain with a small artist brush.  Directions on the bottle said to use a scouring pad after about 30 minutes dry time to remove any stain that got on the tile surface. However with that style of tile I don’t think it would have worked, and instead I relied on a steady hand and used a cloth to wipe up any excess immediately.

I have to say I had my doubts about how effective this would be. I also was thinking it would look painted.  I am glad to say I was surprised and pleased with the results.
